  1. I stand corrected. I suppose glass would in fact date it earlier.
  2. The restoration of prosperity was to return marketing and manufacturing of alcohol to the whims of the public and not the politicians, thereby contributing to the economic health of the country. The w...
  3. This would be Carter Carbureter Company, St. Louis, MO. Notice the CAR an TER flanking the BURE in the word CARBURETER. Established in 1909, it ceased production in 1984 with the introduction of fuel-...
  4. Looks like maybe Keith Bider (Kettlehole Pottery), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Just a wild guess.
  5. My business associate owned a furniture store for over 35 years, and still has a ton of new old stock. Much of what he has are these heavy, solidly-built children's rockers. Some are bare, some are pa...
  6. @MacDaddyRico - yes, it actually originated as a "street game" in NYC. It was originally called "Skully". All the other references are either marbles games or marbles themselves (i.e., aggies, pur...
  7. @MacDaddyRico - LOL - I barely noticed that shield. It's similar to the Cadillac logo, but not exactly the same. Maybe it's an off-handed reference to this being the "Cadillac" of bicycles ?
  8. It could be a record player, for all I know. I am far from being an engineer. I think you've found a gold-mine.
  9. So far, all I've been able to dig up is that Quite Contrary, Inc. patented a Tic-Tac-Toe game in 1967. Not sure of their location at that time. There was also a Quite Contrary, Inc in the U.S. patent ...
  10. That is absolutely interesting ! Amazing find ! Charles W. Sponsel was a mechanical and electrical engineer, (The Sponsel Company, Hartford, CT) who, in the mid to late 1800's, did some work for t...
  11. Ok, well that blows the flag pole base theory out of the water. I'm out of ideas.
  12. I'd say that's a significant find, as it's not only from 1932, but it represents the struggle over prohibition and a hotly contested presidential campaign over that matter and an attack on the Volstea...
  13. @valentino97 - yeah, I was just being facetious. A little tongue-in-cheek. @Tlynnie1942 - I have two long-haired doxies, and it does sort of resemble them.
  14. That sort of confirms what scottvez said. It's a yard ornament or decorative item and not that old. If you search a bit, you'll see a lot of them. Look here, right column: http://www.tricyclefetis...
  15. The banana seat says 1970's - the rest is fairly obvious as to who made it and where. Victoria Precision Works started mass production of bicycles under the Leader/Minelli brand in Montreal in 194...
  16. I think cast iron objects like that are always worth the effort to restore as long as there are no pieces broken off. My guess would be either a salesman's sample or a toy for a dollhouse. Both have ...
  17. It's just my opinion, but I believe the holes are a functional part of the design. That's where the user's fingers would go to "pick" their afro. It is marked for sterling silver, but I've never seen...
  18. Cartoonist Thomas Nast, in 1828 introduced the donkey for Andrew Jackson's Democratic campaign for President. (Jackson was often called a "jackass", thus the designation.) In 1874, Nast drew the fir...
  19. Thanks, scottvez, that's what I was going after. Usually about 9" tall, and a lot of them out there. Some being sold as antiques - which they are not. scottvez knows his stuff.
  20. What is the height of the tricycle, ground to seat ?
  21. All this sounds convincing and compelling. Not to detract from the proffers, being of the analytical mind, what I see is a chunk of rock that just happens to resemble a dog. A lot like looking at cl...
  22. By the way, this watch is very much sought after by collectors, and the fact that it's intact in the original packaging makes it all that more desirable. Fantastic find. Take the significant other out...
  23. Studying the design, you may be right - it appears the horseshoe shaped piece goes against the fence post and the wire is looped around the other two parts and pulled tight by closing the handles toge...
  24. I'm not sure what your mystery is. I believe this is referred to as a "parlor stove". Allen Comstock established his hardware store in Quincy, IL in the 1830's. Timothy Castle established his hard...
  25. It could be a flag pole floor base. Some flag poles thread into the base, while some are just inserted. Is it heavy, solid, filled with sand, or hollow and light ? I'm guessing about 4" in diamete...
  26. Examine them closely for any marks or labels. Up to 4 photos are allowed. Can you tell what they're made of ? What year was your Dad's 2nd tour ?
  27. The McKinley Tariff Act of 1890 required that all goods imported to the U.S. be marked with the country of origin. Japan marked their goods with "Nippon", which is the Japanese word for Japan, from 1...
  28. They're still in business. Not sure what your question is.
  29. I'm not an expert; I'm a research analyst. The square marking usually indicates the Japanese "Kutani" mark. These pieces are very often adorned with birds and foliage (i.e., the cherry blossoms her...
  30. There's some lettering on it. What is that ?
  31. It looks like a "seam" in the clear ball, which suggests molded plastic, so probably what fortapache said.
  32. Lorus was established in 1982 as a subsidiary of Seiko. They started making Mickey Mouse (Disney) watches around 1987 until the late 90's if that helps.
  33. Here's a good reference point: http://www.marblecollecting.com/marble-reference/online-marble-id-guide/
  34. Looks like somebody lost all their marbles !
  35. Everything has value, either to the person who has it or to the person who wants it. This site discourages discussions about value.
  36. You might have nailed it. The stepladder in your reference looks like almost identical construction.
  37. Billions of these were printed in various series (1935 with no letter, and then with the letters A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and H). The seals were either blue, brown, or yellow. The blue seal was most comm...
  38. @TubeAmp, kyratango - perhaps there was something lost in the translation. When I see him next week, I'll get some clarification. He is the one who used the term "misnomer". You consult with a 40-yea...
  39. You've got your work cut out for you.
  40. Just to clarify, the 1902 would have been the license year of the stamp and not necessarily the year of manufacture. Since the licensing was procured by Henry Hiller, that stamp would still have been ...
  41. Sorry, I missed the 1902 on the neck stamp. The distillery was actually in KY. The distributor was in KY and NE.
  42. It's actually Russ Berrie & Co. Here's the entire history of the company: http://www.encyclopedia.com/social-sciences-and-law/economics-business-and-labor/businesses-and-occupations/russ-berrie-an...
  43. I'm from Omaha, originally. The Hiller Liquor Co. was a distributor of one of many products distilled by the former Pee Dee or R.P. Pepper Distillery which was located in Jefferson County (Louisville)...
  44. First of all, it's probably not an Uncas - at least the mark doesn't match any shown for Uncas. It's similar, but different. Secondly, one of my best friends is the premier jeweler in my area, and ...
  45. A match ? Why not just use a Bic ? (Haaa...I'm just too funny for my own good.) Gorgeous candle holder.
  46. The scar suggests hand-blown. Probably a vase. (Too obvious ?)
  47. Sounds like their description of the "rhodium base" contradicts their claim of rhodium plating. It's either plated rhodium or rhodium plated "white gold", which is a misnomer. White gold isn't really ...
  48. I was particularly impressed with the faux drapery finger pulls nearly matching the header on the mirror. Like PhilDMorris, I was leaning toward 40's as well. I'm guessing this might have been high-en...
  49. Hmmmm....nothing on the back of the figures ?
  50. Tip: To clean these old cast aluminum pans, just put them in the cleaning cycle of your oven at 500 degrees for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. The residue will turn to dust and save you some elbow grease.
