    Alexandria…

So, a friend is selling their home, moving south and gave me this wall clock that was in their barn. I found it interesting being made to resemble a pocket watch. The case is metal with a gold paint. My mystery is who manufactured it? The clock face has what I assume is a maker's name just above the IV on the bottom middle. It's hard to make out, even with magnification but looks like it says "Arera A Paris". The clock guts also have a stamp but looks like it was double struck so is also difficult to make out. It looks to read "Arera" only, just like what's on the clock face. I can't find anything in a Google search. Have any of you ever heard of this maker?

dav2n01 ...Appreciate your request and have added close up pics of the 2 makers marks. The clock guts are double struck, and the clock face marking can only be seen when viewed at a certain angle. Did my best to show both. Also, clock size is 11" diameter without the decorative top hanger.

      Hi, Alexandriasfavorite. :-)

Per one of the clock wonks at the National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors forum:

      *snip*

Arera was a clockmaker, based in rue de la Barillerie

      *snip*

      https://mb.nawcc.org/threads/help-finding-info-on-an-unusual-french-mantel-clock.186544/

      That was in 1854.

Arera seems to have had an exhibit in the 1851 Great Exhibit of the Works of Industry of All Nations:

      *snip*

Official Catalogue of the Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations 1851

      Page 234

      752 Arera, N. G. 3 Rue de la Carillerie, Paris.—The
machinery of a complicated clock with a new dial. A tell-
tale clock, indicating the days of the month. Another,
with simple movement. An hydrometer for liquids.

Arera also gets name-checked in this abebook publication:

      https://www.abebooks.com/Palais-Justice-Crucifix-Fabricant-brevet%C3%A9-Horlogerie/790756950/bd

Here's a fancy Arera clock from circa 1820:

Dunno what any of this tells you about your particular Arera clock, but it's a start, anyway.

Keramikos Thank you so much! So, I guess I had the maker right, I just wasn't able to find anything on them. When I have time later, I'll be excited to go through all the links you gave me.
      Again,
Thanks a million for your time and info...
