Was out for a walk and spotted this half of a metal sign............................................................................. .................................

I agree w/Dave to what it probably said when it still had its other half. :-)
The only other thing I might be able to offer is that it was likely *not* any variety of 'official road/highway' sign -- something that would have been posted on private property instead -- because its font isn't one that would be used in an 'official capacity'.
[oh, and in case anybody here should doubt it, if *I'd* have found it laying discarded on the ground somewhere, y'all better believe it would have probably followed me home...?? <LOL> ]
