I found this solid iron elephant at the flea mkt the other day. it says 1855 Crane Co. 1905. 50th anniversary for a company i suppose. I'll have to see if i can find out anything about Crane & Co.

Would the "Crane" be the same company that made plumbing fixtures (sinks, bathtubs, commodes, faucets, drinking fountains, etc) for many years, probably from long enough ago for those dates to fit into any odd 'anniversary' event for them??

it might be. it was an iron forge from what i can find.

That's what I was getting at, with (old, at least) bathtubs and sinks being made of cast iron underneath their finished porcelain surfaces...the CRANE Co. should certainly have had foundry capabilities...??

I knew there was some extra reason the CRANE name came to me...*this* old catalog that'd be, showing that they without a doubt would have been *able* to create little iron elephants if they woulda wanted to...?? (the reasons why I still shouldn't guess?)
