i believe that this is a genuine pre-colombian piece from Southern Mexico or Central America. I was very surprised to see this for sale recently for not much money. There are ceramic spheres in the legs and when you turn it over, they roll down inside the legs - making a sound. These were probably made w/ this feature for ritual or ceremonial reasons. Maybe it mimics the sound of thunder or something. It looks like there's been repairs to it, but the burnishing / polishing inside the mouth of the piece appears to be genuine. It's probably around 500 years old, without researching it at all.
