Very old (1830s), primitive English carpenter square you'd probably never use to frame a house. Blade (1.5" width) is 24” long in 1/8” increments; and Tongue (1" width) is 12” long in 1/4” increments - both along outside edge only, and graduated on one side only. Hand forged, and lines and numbers are hand-stamped with early style font. No makers mark.
Is the square tapered? (Thicker in the corner and thinner on the ends?) why the date 1830? And why English? I,m not being critical, just curious as to reasons. I agree with time and place possibility. Not that my opinion has any value.

Not tapered. Uniform thickness throughout. Date and place of origin based on expert opinion by gentleman (forget his name rt now) who's considered a leading expert in the study and collection of historical framing squares based on his review of photos. Cleaned by electrolysis tank and then gentle 4/0 steel wool.
