    Greetings!

I found this wee rug/mat (23" x13.5") recently and have tried to research its identity myself to no avail. Could it be a Native American (Navajo, Rio Grande, etc) made rug or is it more like styles seen in Mexico (of course acknowledging that there is overlap)? Do you think it might be an older piece or a more recent Tourist piece someone bought on Vacation? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I love the vast knowledge exhibited here on Show and Tell!

PS: Its starting to fray a bit as seen in photo 4 and would love to know how I might go about stopping any further damage.

There’s a product called Fray Check that I’ve used for many years to prevent or repair fraying of fabric. You can buy it anyway sewing notions are sold.

      IMHO,
My guess is that this textile was woven in Mexico on a European threadle loom. It looks like it might be a fragment from a table runner? You see a lot of these weavings originating out of Oaxaca, Mexico area.
