Both of these bowls were made by Monot / Pantin in France circa 1900. The smaller bowl is a salt and usually came with its metal cage, but many have lost theirs over time. The larger bowl is a very much upscaled version of the other, even though the colours don't match. The solid foot is shaped similarly on each. They both have a smooth polished pontil. The opalescence on the larger one is done particularly well. There are alternating vertical stripes of opalescence in a delicate pink pastel shade. I have other examples of Monot which have this the same opalescent treatment. Currently I have it tucked away in the back of the cabinet but it really should be brought out into the light - I think I will have to do this. It is so pretty with the light behind it. I have not seen another of its size before. It is 12 cms high and 16 cms wide. Quite heavy. It was purchased on-line from America.

Thanks, racer4four. The bowl is a beautiful colour when the light is behind it. It was a lucky find and I knew I had to buy it. Good examples from this maker are rare to find. I have a small dish in a similar pink opalescent colourway and a bowl on an opal pedestal foot. Now, if I had the dish the bowl sits on then I would be truly happy. I will try to upload a photo of it soon.
