This appears to have been made from three separate pieces. There is visible metal solder holding the components together. The original piece was the coin shaped disc with the c clasp and pendant ring. A flat bar shaped item with an engraved Design and enamel painted trim (Victorian in age) was added next. It may have been a ladies pocket watch clip. The third component is half of a ring. Possibly a wedding band, based on the curvature, form and finished edges. Our belief is that it was comprised of gold from family items or heirlooms. The design is interesting, and it was custom made from individual pieces. This is why there is no visible hallmarks on any of it. Monogrammed items don't bring the highest values, since they do not hold the same connection to new owners. However, the engraving is on the back, so does not detract from the appearance or appeal. We have valued it based on the details provided, as 18k gold. We cannot confirm the content from images with no hallmark. It would require testing by a locksmith. AUCTION VALUE 3550 - 4795 USD INSURANCE 5000.

Good Heavens, this woman was on a sailing ship but still wearing a corset!! Gotta look up those coordinates to see where she was...I hope nowhere sweltering!

A quick search of those coordinates places her ship off the East coast of Africa, sailing North.
And being just above the Equator, it must have been hot...especially in a corset and all the layers of clothing ladies of her day wore.

I hope you will post more of her daily log.
I would love to know the name of her ship, embarkation port, ports of call....it’s interesting to see a first-person account of what may have been a “Grand Tour” or extravagant honeymoon.
In the picture, she looks like a poised young lady of considerable means.

Mary Putnam Tibbets Easter photo sent to her sister who lived here in our house. She came from the famous family of Putnam's from Salem and Danvers Ma. She married the Clipper ship Captain 1853, traveled with him in the 1885-1892. Around the world and keep diaries here is a page from hers. What a great outfit and hat, this is after her husband died 1895 she still traveled to Paris and other country's.

Thanks for all that additional info in this amazing woman. She must have had an adventuresome spirit to even marry a sea captain, and all the worldly travels must have been a constant delight to her even tho there surely were times of peril and uncertainty at sea. She must have had total trust in her captain!
I’m glad her days of traveling did not die along with her husband. He likely would have wanted her to continue to be a free spirit.
