Can anyone give info on the markings on these milk cans? The first is a 10 gallon from Fairmont creamery in Nebraska. It has a small “33” under the word Fairmont and in the bottom appears to have engraved “44M”. Does anyone know what the “33” and “44M” mean? The second can is smaller (5 gal?) appears to be cooper color and has “M M Cry” embossed in the side. I don’t see any other engravings. Any info someone can give me on how to understand the markings would be greatly appreciated!

In the first one it also has “solar” engraved in both handles.

There are many, many web sites with volumes of information on this company. Perhaps contacting one or more of the historical societies that cover it would be the best bet to gather that information. Apparently they were a very big company with creameries in several states. From what I have read thus far the business started in 1884.

Fhrjr2. Yeah I find many sites about the company but cannot find what their markings mean as of yet. Thanks!

KJG My point was that usually a historical society will include information on what other businesses a given company had dealings with. Like who they got supplies from, who they got equipment and vehicles from for the business and in this case probably even what farms they bought milk from. Some sites have the information but due to a lack of space on the web site not everything is published there. I have had excellent luck asking for help from such places. Some are a little slow to reply but I never had one refuse to help. Many have directed me to other sites that have more data. It is an easy FREE means of gathering information.

Fhrjr2. Thanks again. I have emailed the Nebraska historical society in Omaha. Maybe they can shed some light. Was hoping someone hear might know as well.

Someone here may well know. I'm from the Northeast and our cans came out of upstate NY or Boston.
