Well I picked these up in Scotland last week whilst visiting family as I thought they were well executed and I liked the colours. There is a mark on the base of the small pot of AA, but I have no idea who this is. They may be made in Scotland as I found them there, but I just don't know. To be honest I know virtually nothing about pottery so the main question I want to ask is what are these types of items referred to as? I have read various names for this type of technique 'drip glaze' being one, but I was hoping someone might be able to give me a more precise name for this type of glaze.

Can anyone tell me what this type of glaze is called? Lots of people liking them (thank you) but no answer, there must be a ceramic expert somewhere out there!
Hi Hamish.....I think the term used for these mid-century type glazes is "fat lava". It's a broad term though and covers the smooth earth tones with brillant orange and red colors to the heavy textured pieces that look like volcanic ash. Tu-tone drip glazes that blend into one and other were very popular in the 50's and 60's for lamps and vases. :)
