I was really happy to grab this piece just last week. Sold as a 50s orange glass bowl and with only one other bidder, I snapped it up for a bargain £18! Vivid orange with blue glass rim piping and ball feet.

    Height: 8.2" (11cm) Diameter 7.4" (19cm)

Beautiful color, proportions, execution. Love these ball footed tango bowls.
      Great snag!
      Loetz?

Yeah...well I dunno it's a question that a Loetz expert may be able to confirm or otherwise - I gotta say, I did have a little doubt. It would probably be less questionable if the rim and feet were black. But then Loetz did use blue also. Maybe the shape is questionable. Anyway, confirmation from anyone that knows would be great.

Love it. Sure would look nice in my collection of orange tango vases. I have a similar piece in red with black (no bump out on the sides). It has a straight line acid etched "Czechoslovakia" if that helps. Not sure I had seen it until I looked when you posted this one.

That's interesting as that would suggest not Loetz - post 1918 marks for Loetz are normally in an oval CZECHO on top SLOVAKIA below??

Black glass does not exist. I’ve worked with glass for years...what most think is black glass is very dark purple glass mixed with amber.

Your piece is orange and blue glass.

Black glass actually does exist. One form of actual black glass can be produced using large amounts of Nickel as a colorant. Hyalith glass is also true black glass. It was patented in 1817 by Bohemian glass maker Jirí von Buquoy. I believe it uses Manganese compounds as a colorant. Deep amethyst glass that appears as black is more common, but black glass can be found.
