This little gem was discovered nearly 2 years ago. I had just begun to start collecting small decorative plates and came across this one. I have not found anything similar since. It is stamped with an unfamiliar mark and noted as being handmade. Not sure what period this would fall into?
The markings are the male and female symbols also denoting the planets Mars and Venus, respectively. These symbols have been used by alchemists to denote iron (male) and copper (female).
