Here is a factory applied carnival 162 HEMINGRAY-19. This coloration has been plagued by fakes. This one is the real deal, good to use as a reference, as this exact one is featured in a Drip Points magazine (pup location from the National Insulator Association, NIA) article on HEMINGRAY Carnival glass! Enjoy!

      Why did they do Carnival?

Hemmingray produced there carnival glass between 1932 and 1936. For their insulator production they made insulators in carnival glass because it is slightly conductive; this would reduce radio interference created from AC power lines. Carnival was also used because of its low leakage by making insulator slightly resistant. They apply their carnival coding from bottom up on smaller insulators, this is why the tops are usually later in the bottoms are darker. They did however also apply using other methods that create a darker carnival.
