Bought this item little over 20 years ago at an Egyptian store in Minneapolis. There is a makers mark from 1992 on the base. Item is carved black soapstone. Just love the color and contrast within the piece. Item is about 11 inches long and about 5 inches at the tallest point. Thanks to Sean68 for taking such nice photos of my item.

Very pretty piece. I love soapstone carvings and I also enjoy carving it and working with it. I have been buying up slabs and storing them to cut and carve for a scale model church I want to build. If you get scratches you can polish this with pumice or rotten stone and a buffer wheel on a dremel tool. I usually make a paste out of it using mineral oil then polish away.
Thank you for the tips on caring for it. Been fairly lucky no significant scratches or scraps.
